Why the Dithering about Invading Pakistan, Mr. President?

By John W. Lillpop

Does anyone remember the furor that candidate Obama stirred during the presidential campaign with some rather harsh rhetoric about Pakistan?

As reported in part in 2007 by timesonline.uk (1):

“Barack Obama, a leading Democrat candidate in the US presidential race, provoked anger yesterday by threatening to send troops into Pakistan to hunt down terrorists — even without permission from that country’s Government.

“Standing in front of a Stars and Stripes flag, Mr Obama said: “There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again . . . If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will.”

“The speech to the Woodrow Wilson Centre was designed to shore up his credentials as a potential commander-in-chief by backing a pre-emptive military action that even President Bush has so far refused to order. “

This was pretty tough talk, especially from a very liberal politician not known for being tough on anything except the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law.

But were Obama’s words only for “show,” to create the image of a man willing to do whatever necessary to protect America?

Was this campaign speech an attempt to offset the brutal truth that has become so abundantly clear since January 20, 2009:

Obama is a dithering pansy who is more likely to invade Arizona than any Muslim nation!

Still, there is evidence which suggests that this administration is finally “getting it” about Islamofascism after the Fort Hood slaughter, the Christmas Day underwear attempt, and the Times Square incident.

Judging from Erick Holder’s comments today, as reported, in part, at Politico.com, (2), the great fog of denial about Islamofascism and the war on terror which has blinded our Marxist community organizer may finally be lifting, ever so slightly:

“Top Obama administration officials jettisoned the theory that the Times Square terror suspect acted alone on Sunday, revealing that the Taliban in Pakistan — known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan — hatched and bankrolled the failed plot.

Eric Holder told ABC’s Jake Tapper on “This Week” that investigators have “now developed evidence that show that the Pakistani Taliban was behind” last weekend’s attempted bombing of Times Square.

“We know that they helped facilitate it,” Holder said. “We know that they helped finance it, and that he [suspected bomber Faisal Shahzad] was working at their direction.”

Holder also said for the first time that the administration is open to modifying the Miranda rules that protect criminal suspects in custody, and will work with Congress to revise its public safety exemption, which allows for delaying the warnings in the event a suspect has knowledge of an immediate danger to the public, to adapt to an age of terrorism.”

Manna from heaven! Obama is now open to modifying Miranda? Now that is blasphemy on steroids!

Considering Obama's futile attempt to close GITMO, the idiotic proposal to try terrorists in NYC, the word smithing of the war on terror to secure PC points with Muslims, and other missteps, this is the first potentially good news that America has heard from an administration that generally appears to have declared Jihad on America.

Of course, Obama can reverse all of the nagging doubts by acting decisively in Pakistan.

Which leads to the critical question: Why the Dithering about Invading Pakistan, Mr. President?
