Twin Explosions Mar Biden Visit to Iraq: What About That “Great Achievement”?
By John W. Lillpop
Pity poor Joe Biden, befuddled court jester in the Obama three-ring circus.
Besides being genetically pre-disposed to uttering the dumbest of words, he is constantly vexed by the brutal truth, which keeps getting in the way as he attempts to grab some undeserving glory for his incompetent boss.
For instance, Biden startled the political world last February with this hilarious gaffe: (Reference 1)
“I am very optimistic about -- about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.
“I spent -- I've been there 17 times now. I go about every two months -- three months. I know every one of the major players in all the segments of that society. It's impressed me. I've been impressed how they have been deciding to use the political process rather than guns to settle their differences.”
Political process rather than guns, sir?
Given that blurb just five months ago, Biden must be particuarly annoyed by 4th of July fireworks in Iraq , as reported at reference 2:
“BAGHDAD – Vice President Joe Biden urged rival Iraqi politicians Sunday to end months of delays and select new leaders for their wobbly democracy, predicting a peaceful transition of power even as suicide bombers struck government centers in two major cities.
“The attacks in Mosul and Ramadi underscored persistent fears that insurgents will exploit Iraq's political uncertainty to stoke widespread sectarian violence. Four people were killed and 25 injured in the two blasts that occurred hundreds of miles apart.
“The twin explosions on the Fourth of July illustrated the vexing nature of the U.S. involvement in Iraq and its efforts to nudge the country toward stability and democracy.
“At least five mortar rounds also fell in the Green Zone late Sunday when Biden was there, said Iraqi police officials. The Green Zone is the sprawling protected area in the heart of Baghdad that is home to the U.S. Embassy as well as the Iraqi parliament and prime minister's office.”
The burning question that should be posed to Biden:
“Great achievement, sir? Is that anything akin to “Mission Accomplished”?
