When It Comes to AIG Outrage, Obama Needs Mirror Not pointer!

By John W. Lillpop

Watching caged liberals fight and snarl to avoid and evade truth may replace baseball as America's favorite pastime if Barack Obama's first 50 plus days in office are any indication.

An excellent example is the AIG scandal raging across America these days. AIG has Congress and we the people in a bona fide snit because that goofy company is shelling out bonuses to executives who were instrumental in converting the insurance giant into the equivalent of hobos and welfare bums.

Although his administration worked hand-in-hand with AIG to facilitate the latest $30 billion bail out, the president is full of self-righteous indignation and anger over the entire mess.

As reported at Huffingtonpost, in part:

"Faced with a growing chorus of national outrage, the Obama administration has changed its position regarding the $165 million in bonuses that AIG is distributing to the small group of employees whose risky trades brought the company to the brink of collapse. President Obama today excoriated AIG, saying the company was in its present position because of 'recklessness and greed':

'It's hard to understand how derivative traders at AIG warranted any bonuses, much less $165 million in extra pay,' Obama said at the outset of an appearance to announce help for small businesses hurt by the deep recession.

'How do they justify this outrage to the taxpayers who are keeping the company afloat,' the president said.

Obama stated that Treasury Secretary would 'pursue every legal avenue to block these bonuses and make the American taxpayer whole,' and a White House official told the Wall Street Journal that the Treasury will use a planned $30-billion infusion as a lever to force AIG to replay the bonuses."

Perhaps the president might have a better chance at getting AIG to do the right thing if his own Treasury cop, unlovable Timothy Geithner, was not a known tax cheat?

Or is Obama using the "send a thief to catch a thief" ploy to snag AIG?

Regardless, Obama needs to be consulting a mirror rather than a pointing stick when trying to assess blame for the AIG mess!
