Does Complicity in Passage of Fiscal Cliff Bill Really Shield Republicans from Blame?
By John W. Lillpop
In 2010, the American people sent a message, loud and clear, to Democrats and Barack Obama: Stop out of control spending!
Even so, the Tea Party and other conservative influences were unable to prevent Barack Obama and the Democrats from sabotaging the process that was supposed to address the $16.4 trillion deficit and the uncontrolled spending that threatens to sink the republic.
Astoundingly, Republicans in Congress countenanced a bill that will actually increase the deficit by $4 trillion dollars over the next 10 years.
It is true that the Democrats are mostly to blame for the financial train wreck that is ruining America. Barack Obama and his allied liberals have never genuinely intended to cut spending one iota, except in the area of national defense which most liberals abhor.
Still, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, Republican leaders in the House and Senate respectively, have let conservatives and the nation down by agreeing to the tax and spend mania practiced by Obama and the Democrats.
Boehner and McConnell were reportedly afraid of being blamed for allowing the nation to go off the fiscal cliff. So they copped out and were complicit in an idiotic farce that will increase the deficit even more.
However, Boehner and McConnell are sadly mistaken if they presume to have escaped the wrath of the American people.
Indeed, future wrath is already building and will most certainly include anger at Republicans who aided and abetted Barack Obama in this latest dereliction of fiduciary responsibility.
The reckless and irresponsible fiscal mismanagement of America cannot, and will not, last forever. The day of reckoning will come, and, unfortunately, Republicans will be held as complicit in the financial devastation of what used to be the greatest society in human history!
