Of Chinese Tires, Steel Workers, & Stiffing the Dalai Lama

Satire by John W. Lillpop

Lost in the uproar surrounding President Obama's humiliating defeat in Denmark last week was the following BREAKING NEWS:

World-renowned spiritual leaders are now vulnerable to being shoved under the White House bus when fresh "Road Kill" is needed by Team Obama.

Example: President Obama has decided to use the revered Dalai Lama as a sacrificial lamb to soothe ruffled feathers in Red China and to show his unfettered support for labor unions, which, by nature, are always Red.

As reported, in part, at the Washington Post +:

"In an attempt to gain favor with China, the United States pressured Tibetan representatives to postpone a meeting between the Dalai Lama and President Obama until after Obama's summit with his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, scheduled for next month, according to diplomats, government officials and other sources familiar with the talks.

"For the first time since 1991, the Tibetan spiritual leader will visit Washington this week and not meet with the president. Since 1991, he has been here 10 times. Most times the meetings have been "drop-in" visits at the White House. The last time he was here, in 2007, however, George W. Bush became the first sitting president to meet with him publicly, at a ceremony at the Capitol in which he awarded the Dalai Lama the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress's highest civilian award."

Obama's need to curry favor with China is a result of his imposition of a stiff tariff on Chinese tires.

As reported by the New York Times, in part, on 9/11/09:

"WASHINGTON — In a break with the trade policies of his predecessor, President Obama announced on Friday night that he would impose a 35 percent tariff on automobile and light-truck tires imported from China.

"The decision is a major victory for the United Steelworkers, the union that represents American tire workers. And Mr. Obama cannot afford to jeopardize his relationship with major unions as he pushes Congress to overhaul the nation’s health care system."

What next, Mr. President?

Why not refuse to meet with the Pope to prove that "America is not a Christian nation" and as a show of good faith to woo Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the other mad Iranian mullahs away from nuclear weapons?

Follow-up with a tariff on imported Rosary Beads from Italy and the Catholic Bead Workers Union of America will be in your camp forever.

Not meeting with people may be the most effective tool our inexperienced community organizer has in his bag of political tricks!
