When Did People’s House become a “Self-Executing Slaughter House”?

By John W. Lillpop

There was a time in American history when the U.S. House of Representatives was fondly known as “The People’s House” in recognition of the fact that House members were closest to the needs and interests of their local constituents.

It was a term of endearment, one that seems especially out-of-place these days given the bizarre behavior of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and most Democrats.

Indeed, under the irresponsible and reckless leadership of Speaker Pelosi, terms such as “self-executing” and “slaughter house” are being used to describe the procedural maneuvering and sleight-of-hand pranks that Democrats are resorting to.

The issue is said to be about health care reform, but, in fact, the machinations and unseemly legislative contortions are all about saving face for the most arrogant and out-of-touch president in the nation’s history.

As disgraced former CBS news anchor Dan Rather recently commented, the Obama mystique from a year ago has completely dissipated, and now the man is not capable of selling watermelons, much less a trillion dollar, deficit-busting attack on the best health care system in the world.

ObamaCare is so distasteful to so many people for so many reasons that Democrats have decided to ignore the U.S. Constitution, most American citizens, all Republicans, and established rules in order to pass the most onerous bill ever conceived.

Even then, there is no certainty that the House will pass--whatever that term is deemed to mean—any health care reform legislation any time soon.

Once again, Democrats have over reached and willfully destroyed any opportunity they might have had for moderate change.

In that sense, “self-executing slaughter house” is a most apt label for Nancy Pelosi’s battered House of Representatives!

Can America Recover from the Obama Presidency?

By John W. Lillpop

President Obama has managed, in just fourteen short months, to turn the words hope and change into bitter reminders of the fact that high-sounding oratory, without substance to back it up, can lead to disaster.

America used to have an independent, unbiased mainstream media that we relied on to bring simplistic rhetoric and exaggerated promises strewn about by ambitious politicians into perspective.

Like a school of hungry sharks sensing freshly-spilled blood in the water, American media could be counted on to rip and tear away at vulnerable wounds in order to uncover skeletal remains lurking in the closets of those whom would govern.

Vetting by the media was an invaluable, although despised, part of the American political process that protected lazy Americans from the foolish prattle proliferated by politicians without substance in their dossiers.

We counted on blood-thirsty sharks in the media pool to challenge the words, integrity, and claimed capabilities of the candidates and to share their findings in an objective and reasoned manner.

In a most unfortunate turn of events, the media lost its collective taste for blood with the arrival of Barack Obama on the national political scene three years ago.

This young, handsome man was highly articulate, obviously intelligent, very liberal, and photogenic.

Best of all, Barack Obama was an African-American with the potential to assuage liberal guilt over slavery, Jim Crow laws, and a history of racial discrimination, all in one fell swoop.

He was immediately bequeathed the Torch of John F. Kennedy by the media, still in awe that a black man could be so clean and articulate. Visions of a resurrected Camelot danced about in the minds of leftists from coast to coast.

There were no probing reviews of Obama’s candidacy. No one bothered to ask what he knew about the global economy, foreign policy, or even American history. No one bothered to do a critical assessment of his experience and accomplishments with regard to the responsibilities of the US Presidency.

Barack Obama was largely an unknown quantity to the American people and to the mainstream media three years ago; his tenure in the US Senate was brief and undistinguished. There was precious little in his background to suggest that he was qualified to take on the presidency.

However, he was eloquent, liberal, and black and not George W. Bush. Those qualities apparently trumped the need for substance, at least in the hearts and minds of the star-struck media.

Who the hell needs substance when the candidate can drive a “thrill” up and down the legs of hard-nosed journalists like Chris Matthews?

In many ways, the Obama candidacy and presidency are a parody of the 2003 flick, Head of State, starring Chris Rock, in which an inexperienced and unqualified candidate rides BS and circumstances into the White House.

The Obama insanity also rivals the Elvis Presley craze of the 1950s, when the young truck driver from Tennessee turned the music world on its heels by swiveling his hips and introducing CHANGE called Rock and Roll to an eager public.

The major difference between Elvis Presley and Barack Obama, however, is that at least Presley could carry a tune and strum a guitar.

The big question of our time comes down to this: Can America recover from the disastrous Obama presidency?

Barack Obama Continues to Race Full Throttle toward Oblivion

By John W. Lillpop

CNN’s Jack Cafferty is many different things to different people. However, the one thing that Cafferty will never be accused of is being a conservative. That is just not in his DNA or genetic makeup.

Yet there he was, on CNN no less, claiming that the Obama campaign promise concerning transparency was but another Obama “lie told to get elected.”

Excuse me? Is this the same CNN that has literally been a cheer leader for the One over the past two years?

The only logical explanation is that CNN is experiencing a network-wide spiritual awakening. No other answer makes sense as the video will attest:

Obama’s problems with the truth are hardly the only burr in his knickers these days. There is the little matter of Israel and the sacking of Joe Biden last week.

Obama’s tirade against Israel since then is unprecedented. Only Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad holds Israel in greater contempt than The One, with the main difference being that at least Ahmadinejad is open about his hatred for all Jews and the Jewish state.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, has tried to mask his contempt and has, alas, failed miserably.

Perhaps it is time for Obama to formally recuse himself from issues involving Israel given his Muslim background and anti-Israel bias?

America's Image: Beacon of Light or Banana?

By John W. Lillpop

America has long been looked up to as a beacon of light in a world where corruption, greed, and tyranny often mock the very concepts of freedom, fairness, and rule of rule.

We were different, or so we thought, because of our Constitution, the balancing of power assured by having separate, but equal, branches of government, and a heritage of commitment to the rule of law.

Ours was not a government where matters of great importance were decided in dark, musty rooms by special interest sleaze merchants and elitist politicians willing to sell influence for personal enrichment rather than pursuing the common good.

Government “by and for the people,” was understood to mean open, honest resolution of differences, regardless of how substantial those differences. Adherence to rule of law meant that established rules and laws would always apply, regardless of how urgent the issue, and without regard to the intensity of the passions with which opposing views were held.

Above all else, executing the will of the people was of paramount importance. Advancing the career objectives of ambitious politicians was not.

Sleights of hand and behind the scenes chicanery are accepted as the mother’s milk of dictatorships and banana republics, but were understood to have no place here in America, home to the most sophisticated and civilized political system in the world.

Unfortunately, the tragic manner in which health care reform has been mangled by Congress and the White House has snuffed America’s image as a beacon of light and hope, and replaced it with that of the banana, the symbol of lawlessness, corruption, rule by fiat, and everything antithetical to democratic self-governance.

Over the course of the past six months, we have witnessed a government completely out of touch with, and actually intolerant of, the views of the American people.

We have stood aghast at a government that has deliberately snubbed the will of the people in order to pacify an incompetent president whose disapproval rating is at 52 percent and rising.

We have been shocked by a Congress that is willing to forgo established rules and procedures in order to “get it done,” it being socialization of the greatest health care system in the world, a process not favored by the American people.

Despite all of the cajoling, elbow bending, bribing and other unethical behavior executed on behalf of Barack Obama by Democrat leaders, there is still insufficient support among Democrats to pass the flawed ObamaCare into law.

All of this means that another level of chicanery and banana-republic tactics may be employed by Democrats to get their way,

As reported, in part, by the Washington Post (1), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may attempt to pass health care without having members vote on it:

“After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate's health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it.

“Instead, Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers "deem" the health-care bill to be passed.

“The tactic -- known as a "self-executing rule" or a "deem and pass" -- has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill. It is one of three options that Pelosi said she is considering for a late-week House vote, but she added that she prefers it because it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure.

"It's more insider and process-oriented than most people want to know," the speaker said in a roundtable discussion with bloggers Monday. "But I like it," she said, "because people don't have to vote on the Senate bill."

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, not a man with whom conservatives often see eye-to-eye, hit the nail on the head when he said that the “American people are getting tired of this crap.”

Indeed, we are, Senator.

The big question: Are there enough Democrats in Congress with the integrity and back bone needed to restore that beacon of light and hope to America’s legacy?

While Innocent Americans Murdered in Mexico, Obama Works on Amnesty!

By John W. Lillpop

Although no one in the Obama Administration seems to give a damn, the nation of Mexico continues to decay further and further into anarchy, a tragedy which recently resulted in the murder of innocent Americans affiliated with the U.S. Consulate in this god-forsaken, third-world, failed state. (1)

As murder and mayhem rage out of control in Mexico, the likelihood that the carnage will spill over onto America soil increases with each passing day. In fact, incursions across the US border by Mexican military forces have already been reported and are a chilling reminder of why our borders must be secured and fortified militarily. (2)

And what are the president of the United States and the US Congress doing while Mexico wages war on our sovereign state?

Incredibly enough, our dithering president and his Democrat colleagues in Congress are too busy working on plans to grant amnesty to the 20 million or so invading criminals from Mexico and points south, to concern themselves with defending the homeland.

Moreover, misguided yokels like Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano prefer to think of illegal aliens as “newly arrived refuges” rather than criminals who have deliberately violated US borders and immigration laws.

In their mindless mania to grow the Democrat Party at any cost, Obama and the Democrats have overlooked a vital fact about illegal aliens currently in America: Namely, should hostilities break out between the US and Mexico over Mexico’s inability to control its drug crimes, the loyalties of most illegal aliens will be with Mexico.

The notion that Mexican peasants come to America in pursuit of liberty and freedom and to join the American “family” is too ludicrous to stand.

Mexicans come to America illegally because our politicians are stupid enough to reward them with free health care, education, employment, food, housing, and, in the most extreme cases, protection from federal immigration authorities.

Most invaders have little or no interest in American values, or in “assimilating” into mainstream America, a fact borne out by their universal refusal to learn English.

Granting amnesty to illegal aliens will only serve to encourage another 40 million or so to violate our borders and laws.

If our president and Congress had any commitment whatsoever to the preservation of American culture and to protecting the American people from harm, the administration would be working to deport invading interlopers back to Mexico.

In addition, the Obama administration should seal off the Mexican border with armed forces to protect American interests against drug lords and the corrupt Mexican government.

Do it for the children, Mr. President!

(1) Mexico Gunmen Kill American Consulate Staff

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100314/wl_nm/us_obama_mexico_murders

“CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (Reuters) – Gunmen in the drug war-plagued Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez killed two Americans and a Mexican linked to the local U.S. consulate, an attack U.S. President Barack Obama said "outraged" him.

“An American woman working at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez, just over the border from El Paso, Texas, and her U.S. husband were fatally shot by suspected drug gang hit men in broad daylight on Saturday as they left a consulate social event, U.S. and Mexican officials told Reuters.

“A Mexican man married to another consulate employee was killed around the same time in another part of the city after he and his wife left the same event, a U.S. official said.

“The U.S. official, who asked not to be identified, said it was not clear if the victims had been specifically targeted, and the motive for the attacks was unknown.
“Bloodshed has exploded in recent months in Ciudad Juarez as the head of the Juarez cartel, Vicente Carrillo Fuentes, fights off a bloody offensive by Mexico's No. 1 fugitive drug lord, Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, at the worst hotspot of Mexico's three-year-old drug war.

"The president is deeply saddened and outraged by the news," said White House National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer. He said Obama ‘shares in the outrage of the Mexican people at the murders of thousands in Ciudad Juarez and elsewhere in Mexico.’

“The U.S. State Department updated its warning on travel to Mexico to say it had authorized the departure of dependents of U.S. government personnel from consulates in Ciudad Juarez and five other northern border cities.”
“Nearly 19,000 people have been killed since President Felipe Calderon came to power in Mexico in late 2006 and launched a military assault on the country's powerful drug cartels, sparking a urge in violence that has alarmed Washington, foreign investors and tourists.”

(2) Mexican Helicopter over Texas

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6909500.html

“BROWNSVILLE — The Zapata County sheriff Thursday was questioning why a Mexican military helicopter was hovering over homes on the Texas side of the Rio Grande.
“It was one of the more jarring incidents of the fourth week of border tensions sparked by drug killings — and rumors of drug killings — in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

“Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said he'd reviewed photos of the chopper flown by armed personnel Tuesday over a residential area known as Falcon Heights-Falcon Village near the binational Falcon Lake, just south of the Starr-Zapata county line. He said the helicopter appeared to have the insignia of the Mexican navy.

“It's always been said that the Mexican military does in fact ... that there have been incursions,” Gonzalez said. “But this is not New Mexico or Arizona. Here we've got a river, there's a boundary line. And then of course having Falcon Lake, Falcon Dam, it's a lot wider. It's not just a trickle of a river, it's an actual dam. You know where the boundary's at.”

“The sighting came amid ongoing fighting between the Gulf Cartel and its former enforcers, Los Zetas. The mounting death toll and crisis of fear in cities opposite the Texas border have drawn global attention, as has a news blackout in affected cities with the kidnappings of eight Mexican journalists, at least one of whom was killed.

“As violence continued Thursday with a highway shootout in the state of Tamaulipas, a Senate subcommittee in Washington heard testimony that drug cartels are trying to infiltrate U.S. agencies along the border, with corruption cases among Homeland Security personnel on the rise.

“In the past two years, there have been 400 public corruption cases involving federal, state and local law enforcement agents originating from the Southwest border region, Kevin Perkins, FBI assistant director for criminal investigations, told the Senate Homeland Security subcommittee on preparedness.

“In addition to the highway battle, news from Tamaulipas on Thursday included a 25-year-old man found dead on a roadside in Miguel Alemán. On Wednesday, three people died in two gunbattles in Reynosa.

“Four other deaths have been reported since Saturday in the cities of Mier, Camargo and Miguel Alemán.

“The Mexican government's role in combating the violence remained unclear. The army presence in some cities appeared sporadic, and the navy has led operations including the December takeout of kingpin Arturo Beltran Leyva in Mexico City.

“Gonzalez, the Zapata sheriff, said he couldn't confirm reports that the helicopter was scoping the home of a drug criminal. He said the incursion about a mile over the border occurred over a neighborhood populated by many U.S. Customs officers who work at area border crossings — and they knew what they were seeing.

“My understanding is the U.S. military were informed,” he said. “I don't know what action was taken, if any.”
