You’ve Come a Long Way, Barack---But Not Nearly Far Enough!
By John W. Lillpop
Last November, President Obama presented his 2011 budget strategy for tacking the enormous federal deficit.
His plan? Freeze spending.
That’s all—just freeze spending at the level which produced more a trillion dollar deficit for the year.
Since then, Obama has taken a few baby steps toward being adult about the deficit and spending excesses, including signing the so-called debt-ceiling bill.
The American people and the stock market have finally realized that the bill actually increases the public debt by seven trillion dollars over the next 10 years.
Some awakening!
The fact is that this president and other leftist ideologues need to abandon the effort to shield entitlements from the budget ax. America simply cannot return to fiscal sanity without entitlement reform.
Some other ideas for spending cuts, some large, some miniscule:
What about actually cutting bloated salaries being paid government workers so as to be more in line with wages paid in private enterprise?
Why not eliminate a least 25% of all federal positions, excepting military jobs?
Why not repeal ObamaCare before it can do more damage to the economy?
Why not require a balanced federal budget based on real numbers and no new taxes?
Why not eliminate all new bailouts?
Why not eliminate most, if not all, of the 30+ Obama “czar” positions shielded from Congressional oversight and hidden from public view, positions that pay huge money to the incumbents?
Why not reduce Michelle Obama’s personal staff to two or three total, including chief-of-staff, from the current 30-40? What in the hell does the FLOUS need with 40 assistants?
Why not limit the number of trips that the president takes where there is no clear cost-benefit advantage to the American people?
Why not enforce immigration laws in order to get illegal aliens and the $100 billion plus annual cost associated with supporting these parasitical criminals off the backs of American taxpayers?
Why not eliminate all foreign aid?
Why not prohibit tax-payer funded abortions?
Why not abandon cap and trade and other ludicrous environment hat tricks that would, if implemented, add hundreds of billions, or more, to the federal deficit?
In sum: When will President Obama finally regard deficit reduction as a serious matter, rather than an opportunity to make news with a mindless sound bites?
After all, the liberal era of “tax and spend” is now officially over!
